I found writing about Peyer’s Patches more of a challenge to write about in a non-medical format so that it is easier to understand their function. They are situated in the lower area of the small intestine and work to decide which food is friendly and which is harmful as the food passes through the gastrointestinal tract. The cells within these areas identify antigens and decide if foods are harmful bacteria or whether they provide the nutrients we need and pass signals to the intestinal tract
